Horn's Raven Bennett will be heading to Waco for the regional competition after winning the 12-5A girls singles championship on Monday at the Rockwall ISD Tennis Complex.

Bennett swept through her first two matches with 6-0, 6-0 victories. That set the stage for the finals, where she rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Emily Kim of Rockwall-Heath.

Bennett will compete at the 5A Region II tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco.

In other results, Horn's Carlos Cruz took fifth place in boys singles. The boys doubles team of Matthew Hopper and Alejandro Delgado, the girls doubles tea of Joshlyn John and Yasmin Lozano and the mixed doubles team of Vanessa Parra and Colton Hancock also placed fifth.

Horn boys take sixth at district golf tournament

The Horn boys shot a two-day total of 759 to place sixth at the 12-5A tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Canton. The Jaguars were led by Ashton Howard (82-92--174) and K.J Hollingsworth (97-84--181). Rounding out the top five for Horn were P.J. Kimberlain (106-95--201), Evan Fryar (98-105--203) and Spencer La Barbera (110-105--215).

Rockwall, led by individual champion Dylan Yarbrough (72-79--151) claimed the team championship with a two-day total of 646. That was good enough for a 17-stroke victory over Tyler Lee, who shot a 663.

Those two teams, as well as Rockwall's Adam House and Rockwall-Heath's Sam Bowerman, will compete at the 5A Region II tournament on Wednesday and Thursday at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
