Pierce wins boy's 16's Texas Grand Slam
The Grand Slam had two more singles champions Friday, in the Boys 16-year-old and Girls 12-year-old divisions. Houston's Aron Pierce was the Boys 16 champion and McKinney's Ellie Douglas won the Girls 12 division championship.

Boys 14s
Sugar Lands Aron Pierce, 9th seed in the Boys 14s draw, used his strength and power to mow down the competition. The 13-year-old top-ranked Texas eighth grader outmuscled top seed and rising freshman Will Showers in the finals 6-4, 7-5 for the Boys 14s crown.
Pierce faced the toughest challenge of the tournament in the quarters from 2nd seed Connor Curry 6-4-,1-6, 6-1, conceding the only set he lost during the week. Pierce beat 3rd seed Jordan Hart in the semis and 5th seed Will Adkisson in the quarters.
National Open finalist Showers lost seven games before the finals.
ARON PIERCE of Houston, Texas, won the boys 14's division of the USTA National Open. Pierce, the No. 3 seed defeated the No. 4 seed Spencer Furman of Woodinville, WA 6-1; 6-0, in the finals.

PIERCE, PORTER SHINE IN HTA play- Aron Pierce of Houston and Elizabeth Porter of Dallas, successfully defended their No. 1 seedings in the boys and girls 14A singles of the Houston Tennis Association Super Championship 12-14 Major Zone Tournament.
Pierce blanked No. 5 John Milstead of Houston 6-0, 6-0 in the final.
Porter beat No. 2 Abigail Chiu of Austin 6-1, 4-6, 1-0.

Lone Star stars
With their victory Saturday, Bob and Mike Bryan have won 17 consecutive matches in Texas dating to 2007.
Before that, they also had claimed two Masters Cups titles in Houston.
"This is our most successful state," Bob said, noting the twins had "played well in the 14s nationals in San Antonio, too."
U.S. captain Jim Courier drew a laugh by chiming in with: "And no (state) income tax."
The Bryans have taken the U.S. Clay Courts title at River Oaks four years in a row.
Their latest victory in April launched a 31-3 run during which they have won five titles, including Wimbledon.
"This is a very strong patch for us," Mike said. "We definitely got something going in Houston. All it takes is a little confidence. River Oaks always seems to turn everything around for us. We got hot and we're still riding the River Oaks wave."
Sharp-dressed man
U.S. captain Jim Courier is attracting a lot of attention for wearing a suit on the team bench, which isn't exactly standard practice in Davis Cup circles.
Judy Murray, Andy Murray's mother, even tweeted about it, wondering if he was trying to channel Lakers coach Phil Jackson.
Told that, Courier replied: "I hope you're kidding. The suit is what I'm comfortable wearing. I like the way basketball coaches look when they're with their teams. I thought that would be something good to emulate. This is what I want to wear. It's neither right nor wrong. It's just me."
Courier said he owned "about 40 suits  more than I need. But most of them have been given to me for doing TV."
His label? Hugo Boss, which happens to be one of the Davis Cup sponsors.
'Alpha dog'
Mardy Fish might be the highest-ranked American, but Andy Roddick remains The Man. U.S. captain Jim Courier called him the "alpha dog; he's the one making the playlist."
Added Bob Bryan: "I think he's played 45 or 46 (Davis Cup) matches. He kind of takes the bull by the horns and leads this team pretty well."
Happy camper
Houston's Aaron Pierce is one of eight 13- and 14-year-olds brought to Austin by the USTA to participate in the Davis Cup Junior Camp in conjunction with the tie against Spain.
Considered to be serious prospects, they're spending four hours a day on the court at a local club drilling with USTA coaches and then attending the matches.
Pierce, 14, who stands 6-2, admits he has only one goal regarding tennis.
"The pro tour," he said. "Being No. 1."
