It's been seven years since the UCLA men won the NCAA Division I Team Championship, and they are looking to dethrone Pac-12 rival USC, who have won the last four titles. The Bruins have taken a step closer to this goal with the commitments of three Blue Chip recruits to the 2013-14 team.
Gage Brymer,
Joseph DiGiulio and
Mackenzie McDonald are all California boys. They have each proven themselves as outstanding junior players with experience on the USTA and ITF circuits. DiGiulio and McDonald have also played some men's professional events, while Brymer has spent time as a member of his high school's team.
Seventeen-year-old Gage Brymer is No. 5 nationally on the Athletic DNA Ranking List. He has been a consistent winner in the juniors, taking National Opens in the 14s, 16s and 18s; the USTA National Winter Championships in the 14s; and the Easter Bowl in the 16s.
Brymer also has been the recipient of numerous sportsmanship awards and brings with him some additional experience, "I've enjoyed playing on my high school team, and I don't mind playing in front of crowds, so I'm pretty excited for next year."
Joseph DiGiulio has been in the national spotlight since he was one of the featured players in the movie 50,000 Balls, along with T.J. Pura, Mitchell Krueger and Mitchell Polnet. DiGiulio was only in the 12s when the film featured him as one of the top juniors, and he has since proven that he has staying power. The Newport Beach resident recently took the title at the Orange County/J.P. Yamasaki Open and was the 2012 Easter Bowl champion in the boys' 16s.
