Signing Week: Blue Chip Girls
Share:

Just one more day until the college tennis signing period begins - tomorrow is Signing Day.

Starting tomorrow, seniors in the Class of 2025 can officially sign formal financial aid agreements with college tennis programs. Many have made verbal commitments over the past months, but those can - and often do - change. That all ends tomorrow, when college coaches can finally publicize their signed recruits on social media and in official announcements.

As always, Blue Chip recruits are some of the most sought-after athletes. TRN has been in touch with these players to get updates on their recruiting status. Yesterday, we highlighted the Blue Chip boys. Today, it’s the girls’ turn to step into the spotlight.

Blue Chip Status

The table below shows the Blue Chip athletes and their current recruiting status. The Commitment column shows whether the recruit has made a verbal commitment or is undecided, while the Interests column indicates schools of interest.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

While they haven’t yet signed, a majority of the Blue Chip girls know where they are going. 23 of the 26 college-bound Blue Chip athletes are off the board and plan to sign their scholarship agreements very soon. There are only two left for coaches to pursue.

Triple Dipping Cardinal

Summer 2024 marked a huge transition for Stanford Women’s Tennis. Legendary coach Lele Forood, who won 10 NCAA Titles during her 24-year tenure, stepped down from her role as Director of Women’s Tennis. Associate Head Coach Frankie Brennan, a third-generation coach who has been with Stanford for 29 years, took the reins without missing a beat on the recruiting trail.

The Cardinal are the only school to secure commitments from three Blue Chip recruits. Californians Alyssa Ahn (San Diego) and Tianmei Wang (San Marino) will join Monika Ekstrand of Delray Beach, Fla. on The Farm next fall.

Twice as Nice

Four other programs have commitments from multiple Blue Chip recruits. The Georgia Bulldogs, Harvard Crimson, North Carolina Tar Heels, and USC Trojans have all attracted two Blue Chip commitments.

Scattershooting

Looking through the list …

  • ACC Leads the Way: The Atlantic Coast Conference leads all conferences by a wide margin with 10 Blue Chip commitments among 7 different institutions. Georgia Tech, NC State, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wake Forest join Stanford and North Carolina with Blue Chip recruits. The next-closest conference is the SEC with 5 committed Blue Chips.
  • Crossing Borders: 15 of the 23 committed Blue Chips are heading to programs outside of their home states.
  • Full Power: All 23 of the committed Blue Chips are heading to ACC, SEC, Big 10, or Ivy League institutions - all of which are so-called “power conferences”.
