Copper Bowl Roundup
by Julie Wrege, 13 January 2006
I ended my nine-day trip to Arizona in Tucson with a visit to the Copper Bowl tennis tournament.
Bowl History and Growth
The Copper Bowl was started by tournament director Don Dickinson sixteen years ago. It was originally associated with the football bowl game with the same name. Of course, like most bowl games, the football bowl has since been renamed for a company (Insight) and moved to a new city (Phoenix).
But the Copper Bowl tennis tournament has flourished. In the first year there were 183 players, while in 2006 the tournament is bursting at the seams with over 1100 competitors in the main and qualifying draws.
