Katherine Oudin, one of the top unsigned high school senior girls, is going to Furman University.
An honor student at The Walker School in Marietta, Ga., Oudin will give Furman two top-100 recruits, the most in the Southern Conference. The other is No. 64
Margaret Ann Boyette, also from Georgia.
Oudin, whose twin is WTA Tour pro Melanie Oudin, made her decision this week, although she has not signed officially.
"It's taken me a long time to figure out the kind of school I want to go to," said Oudin, who is ranked 89th nationally in the latest TennisRecruiting.net ranking of senior girls. "There are so many factors involved - the coach and the team, the location, and No. 1 is academics for me. That's how been my whole life. But I didn't think the recruiting process would be as stressful."
Oudin says she hasn't played her best tennis or given the sport her undivided attention the past couple of years. She's still a four-star recruit, but she believes her current ranking underestimates her potential. She's been ranked as high as No. 44 in her class.
