Traci Green is currently in her 3rd year as the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Harvard University. In 2009, she led her team to a share of the Ivy League title. Green graduated in 2000 from the University of Florida and was a part of their 1998 NCAA Championship team. She also serves on Wilson's Speakers Bureau and Advisory Staff.
Today, Coach Green shares her thoughts on a number of subjects... what she looks for when recruiting players, advice for young players looking to compete collegiately or professionally, and the kinds of experiences she has had in college coaching. Her comments provide insight to prospective players and parents.
Questions and Answers
Wilson: Other than seeking players who exemplify both tennis and academic excellence, what is the most important quality you look for while recruiting?
Traci Green: We are looking for players who truly love the game of tennis, are committed to being the best tennis players that they can be and have the ability and desire to be in a rigorous academic environment.
Wilson: What advice do you have for players who are torn between going Pro and going to college?
Green: It is hard to give one-size-fits-all advice since this decision is such a personal one for the player. Many players since their childhood have dreamed of going pro. All I can say is that you can't replace education. Hopefully, those players can find a college tennis program that can assist them with their dream of turning pro after college.
Wilson: How do you determine who plays which position for every match? Is your lineup set for the whole season or is there mobility?
