Tom Blackwell has signed a letter of intent, and will join the Huskers squad in 2010. The nationally ranked Floridian is the first player from the Sunshine State to play for the Big Red since 1992.
"Tom will be the start of something big from the state of Florida for our school," said McDermott, in his 28th year at the Nebraska helm. "There is so much talent in Florida, and we would like to tap into the kids who are looking to play Division I tennis, and play in the Big 12 Conference. Florida junior tennis is highly competitive, especially because you have not only the kids training with their private coaches, but also the kids who are attending academies all over the state."
According to McDermott, Blackwell will be his first Florida player since Todd Broaderick was a Husker in the 1991-92 season.
Blackwell, a five-star player from Ponte Vedra Beach, signed on Nov. 11
