When and How to Send a Video to Coaches

College coaches are always pleased when a student-athlete has done his or her homework. One of the first things most coaches will ask is "do you have a video?"
It is rare that you are approached by a coach who has already seen you play unless you are staying very close to home in your college search. Even then, for a college coach to take the time to watch a match is a big commitment. Such an overture usually comes after a coach has good reason to believe the player is the quality they want before making the trip and taking the time out of their busy schedule.
The college placement video is, therefore, very critical. It should be done early in the process - such as the end of the Junior year of high school or early in the Fall of the Senior year. There are as many ideas about what should be in the video as there are videographers out there hawking their services.
