Nine Questions with Julia Boserup

Seventeen-year-old Julia Boserup played only two ITF tournaments in 2008, the U.S. Open and the Dunlop Orange Bowl. A wild card entry in both, she lost in the first round in New York, but at Key Biscayne, the 5-foot-11 right-hander demonstrated her game's considerable potential by overcoming a strong field to capture the prestigious title.

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Boserup now lives in Boca Raton, Florida, and trains at the USTA National Training Center there. She recently served as a practice partner for the U.S. Fed Cup in its tie with Argentina, the second time she has accompanied the team in that capacity. I spoke with her at length after her Orange Bowl win, and she reflected on her Fed Cup experience a few months later via email. A frequent blogger for usta.com who enjoys writing, Boserup posted regular updates there during both the Orange Bowl and the Fed Cup.

Questions and Answers

Colette Lewis (CL): The Orange Bowl was your first ITF final. How did you control your nerves?

Julia Boserup (JB): The way I played the whole tournament really helped me. I didn't even think of what round I was in, so for me it didn't feel like a final, it felt like just another match. In that third set, when it was getting down to closing it out, I tried to play big, go for big points, go for big shots, because that's how I play best.
