Recruiting Profile
Top Prospect: Rachael White
by
Colette Lewis, 24 April 2008
She's tall, she hits a big ball and she lives in suburban Chicago, so it's no surprise five-star recruit Rachael White excels at the indoor game.
"Indoors is definitely my strong point," says the 5-foot-10 right-hander, who claimed 18s titles at both the
K-Swiss and the
Cincinnati National Open in February. "Outside is a lot different, a lot longer points, more tiring."
White, ranked 20th in the class of 2009, has taken two unofficial visits, to the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin, but her mind is far from made up.
"I'm not sure if I want to stay in the Midwest or not, but those are the schools I'm interested in if I do," says White, who turns 17 on Sunday.
An Illinois state champion as a Deerfield High School sophomore, White did not compete as a junior, but plans to return to high school tennis this fall.
"I really enjoy it," says White. "The team motivates each other. Having other teammates to look to is a cool part of college. I'm excited for the team part."
