Recruiting Update
Wilkins excited about Minnesota
by Dallas Oliver, 8 October 2007
At Minnesota, Head Coach Tyler Thomson is building for success. After a 5-18 showing in '06, the Golden Gophers finished the 2007 season with a 12-11 record and a FILA ranking of #61.
Thomson looks to be keeping things on track for the future with strong recruiting. He recently received a verbal commitment from the top player in Minnesota for Fall 2008 - 5-Star recruit
Niltooli Wilkins.
Wilkins is a recruit with experience at the highest level in American junior tennis. She competed in all four national tournaments in 2006-07, winning seven matches at the Winter Nationals, Spring Nationals, and Clay Courts. Overall, Wilkins posted a 23-12 record against 5- and 4-Star competition over the past year.
Wilkins recently selected the University of Minnesota for her college tennis team, choosing the Gophers over Dartmouth, Brown, and N.C. State.
Minneapolis is just a short drive from the Wilkins home in Burnsville, Minn., and no one is more excited about that than her mother, Evelyn Wilkins.
"We helped Tooli weigh the options - getting her to carefully consider the pros and cons of each school. But we could not be more excited about her choice of Minnesota. It has everything she needs, and it is only twenty minutes away. We'll be able to watch all her home matches!"
We recently talked with Wilkins about Minnesota and her college decision process.
