McClune and Sandgren Lead 18s and 16s Fields as Kalamazoo Marks 65th year

Michael McClune and Tennys Sandgren hope to add their names to the list of Who's Who in American Tennis by capturing championships during the 65th edition of the USTA Boys' 18 & 16 Nationals, beginning tomorrow at Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium and the Sorensen courts on the campus of Western Michigan University.

In celebration of 65 years of junior tennis championships in Kalamazoo, the tournament has already added a new twist to venerable Stowe Stadium. The Walk of Fame, a brick path leading to the Kirk Newman statue "The Winner," has been established to honor the tournament's Green Jacket recipients, who are selected for their exemplary volunteer service.

This year Timon Corwin, who is directing his 14th and final event after accepting a position at the USTA as Senior Director of Junior and Collegiate Competition, and retiring tournament referee David Markin, who has served in that capacity for 32 years, join former tournament directors Allen B. Stowe and Rolla Anderson in having their likenesses grace the base of the sculpture.
