The five-star senior from Danville, California found that at Boston College. BC doesn’t offer scholarships for men’s tennis.
"I knew that going in and I really just wanted to choose the best school for me. I really wasn't worried about how much money I would get,” Vassel said. “Boston College was my top choice, and my parents were really supportive, which was awesome. I am extremely lucky."
Vassel had interest from schools closer to home, but wanted to leave California to experience a new environment and meet new people. He was able to visit BC during the fall of his junior year and meet with head coach Scott Wilkins.
"BC is great for academics and a big sports school," he said. "I had a lot of great offers, but I wanted to go somewhere I had a good chance of playing. I really like the coach and the guys on the team."
