As the youngest of six children, Peter Murphy enjoys the benefit of learning from his older siblings. He values their advice, and it was no different when he was making his college decision.
The morning Murphy planned to decide between the University of North Carolina or Yale, he sat down for breakfast with a few of his brothers and sisters.

"I kind of knew what I wanted but they helped me talk through it,” he said. “A lot of us went over the pros and the cons together. They were huge in the decision. Having siblings know what it was like having to choose a college was great."
Murphy emerged with greater clarity on his future. The five-star recent graduate from Portland, Oregon committed to play for UNC.
Murphy originally wanted to take a gap year and play for Stanford in 2021. But that plan fell through when he didn’t qualify for Stanford academically. Murphy started looking through the rankings to identify schools that interested him and began making calls.
"I ended up taking a visit to North Carolina and loved it. I loved the campus and the coaches,” he said, referring to head coach Sam Paul and assistant Tripp Phillips. “They both seemed great, and obviously the team is really strong. I wanted to be a part of a team that has a chance to win championships. It just kind of all fit."
