Improvements Made For 2nd Annual USTA College Combine
Share:

Following last year’s inaugural USTA All-American College Combine, the USTA Player Development staff solicited feedback from coaches, parents and players to try and enhance the experience.

They wanted to know what everyone liked, what they would have changed and what they could add to make the trip more worthwhile.

The USTA will be rolling out some changes for the second annual Combine on June 18-21 at the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando. American prospective student-athletes who are USTA members with high school graduation years from 2018-2021 are eligible to participate. The field is completely full with 64 boys and 64 girls registering this year.

The event will have an expanded, level-based singles tournament featuring best-of-three-matches with a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set, no-ad scoring and a “Shootout” at the end. Weather permitting, it will have doubles play. It will have more informational sessions for players and parents to learn about colleges and the recruiting process. It will even have a player’s lounge assembled by presenting sponsor Adidas that includes a place for players to make their own customized Adidas T-shirts.

“Most of the things we heard after last year’s event were largely all positive. Everybody had a great time, but they just wanted the matches to be longer and to be more level-based play,” tournament director Brian Ormiston said. “The great thing was they all wanted more of what we were doing, and we did our best to provide that this year.”
