Long Day, Short Stay At U.S. Open

NEW YORK - Jamie Hampton knows why her stay at the U.S. Open women's qualifying tournament lasted only one day.

Although the 16-year-old from Auburn, Ala., worked overtime in her opening round match on the hard courts of the soon-to-be-named Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Hampton had the misfortune of being paired against Varvara Lepchenko.
