As they say across the Gator Nation, 'it's great to be a Florida Gator', and for Peggy Porter of Dallas, those words ring especially true. Porter plans play tennis for the Gators and Coach Roland Thornqvist, and she wants to put the official touch on her commitment during the Fall signing period.
"I visited a few schools," says Porter, "and I loved parts of each and every one of them. Florida was the last place I visited, and it was the complete package of exactly what I wanted in every way."
Porter visited Georgia, North Carolina and Duke and knew that she would be happy at any of those schools. Her boyfriend, Mitchell Krueger, also initially hinted that he thought she would end up at Georgia. But the 'total package' at Florida was a perfect fit.
Porter cites the very competitive SEC schedule, academics and an amazing coaching staff as the keys to her heading to Gainesville. She also alluded to the Gators' recent string of success at the NCAA Tournament, adding that, "winning is fun".
Krueger now believes she will be a great fit with the Gators.
"He's known all of the girls on the team for years," adds Porter, "and knows I am going to fit in just fine."
Having a strong biology program was also a selling point for Porter in her decision.
"I have always done well in biology and really enjoy it," adds Porter. "I am going to try it and see if that's really what I want to do."
Greg Alexander, who knows a thing or two about the Florida program, currently coaches Porter. Both of his daughters, Megan and Jessica, played for the Gators.
"He has been very helpful in this decision," adds Porter, "and is very excited."
