Everything Breaks the Right Way for Five-Star Robinson
Share:

Breaking an ankle may have been what saved Mia Robinson’s tennis career.

Robinson (WTN: 19.3) wasn’t enjoying the sport as much as she was in the past. She felt like she was in a funk and considered quitting. Her injury in 2021 changed everything.

“I think everyone goes through a period where they're like, ‘What am I doing with my life? Why am I playing tennis?’ It's such a hard sport,” Robinson said. “And then you just have that one thing that snaps in your mind and you're like, ‘oh, I can do this. This isn't too bad.’ I think that my broken ankle was like a wake-up call. I guess my body and my mind needed a little break, and then I came back hungry and ready to go.”

Robinson missed three months recovering from the broken ankle. The five-star senior has revived her game and her outlook over the last three years. The Mississippi State coaching staff took notice last year during an event in Rome, Georgia..

MSU assistant coach Noah Tippen saw Robinson and wandered over to her court.

“I don't even think he was there to watch me, but he happened to see me play,” said Robinson, who was born in Virginia and lives in South Carolina. “Then, after the match, he introduced himself to my mom and I and he stayed in contact with my dad.”
