Andres Martin spent many hours during the summer going door to door in his Flowery Branch, Georgia neighborhood asking for work.
Martin was trying to earn money to pay his tournament entry fees, and was willing to mow lawns or wash windows to make it possible.
“My family doesn’t come from that much, and that is really hard when you play a sport like tennis,” Martin said. “I wanted to do anything I could to afford to play, and people were very generous to help me out and let me earn a couple of bucks.”
Martin’s neighbors can take pride in knowing they helped fund his development, and opened the door for an even more lucrative future. The blue chip senior has earned a scholarship to play for Georgia Tech. Martin signed with the Yellow Jackets last November.
“Georgia Tech was a great option for me. It’s close to home and I can study engineering at one of the best academic schools,” Martin said. “They are building a team that I think will be really strong. There are a bunch of good guys coming in that are great players, and I am excited to play with them.”
