Open Mind Helps Rodewald Discover Grand Valley State
Share:

Nadia Rodewald (WTN: 23.0) didn’t target specific colleges or restrict her potential selections to certain areas of the country when she began her recruiting search.

"I was very open with this process. I was figuring out new schools basically every day, whether through Tennis Recruiting Network or quick searches online,” Rodewald said. “I figured why not expand my options a little bit and talk to the coach and feel it out."

That is how Rodewald discovered Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan. She received an email from head coach Samantha Schall and started doing more research about the Division II program.

The four-star senior from Clearwater, Florida scheduled an official visit and “knew it was a really good fit for me as soon as I walked on campus and met the team.” A few weeks later, Rodewald committed to the Lakers.

"There was this pressure about going to a D1 school and I feel like that is wrong because when I went to the DII, it almost felt like I was playing at the same level as a D1,” Rodewald said. “It really doesn't matter the division. It's really just how they play, and I felt like I fit in there."
