Sachiv Kumar (WTN 13.4) noticed the University of Wisconsin coaches standing near his court at the USTA Hard Court National Championships in Kalamazoo. The Novi, Michigan native grew up wanting to play in the Big Ten Conference, and figured this may be his chance.
“I played well at Kalamazoo so I contacted them and things got running pretty quickly after that,” he said. “They really love my game and I wanted to go there pretty badly after I saw Madison.”

The four-star senior will be signing with Wisconsin this week when the signing period opens.
Kumar had explored the possibility of attending MIT or Carnegie Mellon to study engineering, but wanted a more prominent football school with strong academics.
“Madison is beautiful. The campus is really nice and the courts and facilities are even better,” he said. “It’s a big school and athletics are very important there and I think that was a big factor too. It fit everything I was looking for.”
