Hall of Famer John McEnroe and his brother Patrick McEnroe are preparing to make history by playing in the first-ever tennis match in the Serengeti in Africa as part of a safari expedition from Dec. 1-8.
The match will be giving back to charity in Tanzania and also to the Johnny Mac Tennis Project while helping try to build tennis throughout the Tanzania area
The McEnroe brothers are former All-Americans at Stanford University, renowned broadcasters and have been instrumental in developing top junior talent at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in New York.
The two recently discussed the upcoming trip with Harry Cicma
HC: You're heading to the Serengeti with your brother. What's this all about?
John McEnroe (JM): I've actually been to Tanzania once before on a Safari, so this is extremely exciting. Their chance to get back with and be able to do some things I wasn't able to do, such as play tennis and visit and learn a little bit more about the culture. So I'm excited and hopefully, you'll add some interest to our sport in Africa.
That's long been a goal for all of us involved in tennis, so hopefully this will move the needle in that respect.
