Five-Star Webster Charts Her Own Path with Miami Commitment

Savannah Webster knew she needed to be patient during her recruiting process. However, human nature took over last fall when she started seeing other players commit to schools. The five-star junior worried she was falling behind.

Then, in mid-January, University of Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews came to watch Webster hit. Yaroshuk-Tews texted Webster a few weeks later to schedule a call.

“It kind of caught me by surprise. I had already been talking to colleges way before that, so this was something new,” Webster said. “Paige and I had some great conversations about my tennis and everything about the school. Once I went on my visit, I just fell in love with the whole university.”

Webster and Yaroshuk-Tews aren’t strangers. Yaroshuk-Tews played for Webster’s mother, UCLA head coach Stella Sampras Webster, as a member of the Bruins from 1993-96. But Webster never imagined she would be committing to play for Yaroshuk-Tews and the Hurricanes.

“The possibility didn’t really enter my mind at first,” Webster said. “I had some amazing visits with some great coaches that I grew really close with. I loved all of my visits. All of them were so welcoming and the teams were so nice. That is what made this decision so hard. But I just felt Miami was where I wanted to be and where I could grow the most and have so many opportunities there.”
