PLANTATION, Fla. - Kate Kim extended her winning streak in Florida to 12 matches last week, with the 16-year-old adding the 16s Orange Bowl title to the Eddie Herr title she had captured the week before.
Winning back-to-back tournaments is an accomplishment in any scenario, but particularly when the surface changes from hard to clay. Yet for Kim, who defeated Stephanie Yakoff 6-4, 3-0 (retired) in Saturday's all-American final at the Veltri Tennis Center, the transition was in the right direction.

"For me, it's an easier transfer from hard to clay," said Kim, who trains at Team Anderson in Lake Worth, Florida. "I think I do like clay a little bit more, it better suits my ball. I think I hit a really heavy ball, so when it hits the clay it's really lively and I get a lot of short balls I'm able to attack a little bit more."
Kim also was diligent in her post-match recovery, especially after her third round and quarterfinal matches, both played on the same day due to rain early in the week.
