The blue chip senior from Bountiful, Utah is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like many LDS kids his age, he wanted to go on a two-year LDS mission before starting college.
He wasn’t sure how Martin would react. He didn’t know if there would be a spot for him available at UCLA once he returned in 2023.
"He was totally fine with it and sent me the letter of intent that morning," Johnson said. "I have been praying a lot about where I should go to college, and everything just kind of fell into place and worked out."
Having signed with UCLA, Johnson’s next big submission is putting in his mission papers in January to find out where he will serve his LDS mission.
"I didn't really think about it much until I started talking to colleges a couple of months ago and I made that decision really quickly,” he said. “I just wanted to have that life experience because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and there is so much growth that happens in a short amount of time. It's a really life-changing experience because I have seen it happen to my siblings."
