For the third consecutive month, my column on top performers entailed a visit to the archives, with 14 junior and college players highlighted for their performances in past Junes. All 14 of those featured below have gone on to reach the ATP and WTA Top 50, and one is a reigning slam singles champion. Their best professional ranking with the date reached is noted at the end of the caption.

Kevin Anderson
The rising senior at the University of Illinois [who turned pro prior to that season] was a finalist one week and a winner at the next two California Pro Circuit Futures events. And the 2006 NCAA doubles champion had success on that front, too, reaching the final in Sacramento with former Illini All-American Ryler DeHeart.

The 6-foot-10 Georgia Bulldog couldn’t have hoped for a more impressive professional debut. As an unseeded wild card, he captured his first event as professional, the $15,000 Pro Circuit Futures event in Shingle Springs, California.
