The notable performances in March include the final ITA Team Indoor title of the season, an amazing streak by the International Tennis Federation World Junior No. 1, and the first ITF World Tennis Tour titles for two of the top American juniors. Because all eight Easter Bowl singles champions were featured earlier this week, they are not included here, but congratulations again to Thea Latak, Abhishek Thorat, Tsehay Driscoll, Juncheng Shang, Vivian Ovrootsky, Samir Banerjee, Emma Navarro and Ronald Hohmann for their USTA national titles at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Clara Tauson
The 16-year-old from Denmark still has yet to lose in 2019, adding three more World Tennis Tour singles titles to her collection last month. After winning the Grade 1 in Traralgon and the Australian Open girls titles in January, Tauson moved to No. 1 in the ITF junior rankings. She then began working on her WTA ranking, winning the $15K event in Tunisia with a victory over 2018 NCAA champion Arianne Hartono of the Netherlands to start the month, and adding her biggest pro title at the $60,000 WTT event in Shenzhen, China. Unseeded, Tauson beat No. 6 seed Liu Fangzhou of China in the final. Following the $60K win, Tauson claimed another title in China, beating Meiqi Guo of China in the final of the $15,000 event. Now 27-0 this year, Tauson has boosted her WTA ranking to 408.
Emory Women
The Emory women claimed their third consecutive ITA Division III National Team Indoor title last month in Nashville, Tennessee, with the second-seeded Eagles beating top seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5-3 in the final. With the victory, Emory avenged its loss to CMS in the NCAA final last year. Freshman Emma Cartledge clinched the title for Emory with a win at No. 4 singles. Since capturing the Indoor title, Emory has remained No. 1 in the ITA Division III rankings.
